Adam Cooke Honored with "Student Internship Excellence Award" from the BBEC

Exeter senior Adam Cooke was recently honored with the “Student Internship Award” during the Berks Business Education Coalition (BBEC) Summit. Adam received the honor for his outstanding work and growth through his internship with 830 AM WEEU, Reading’s local radio station.
Adam began interning with WEEU in the fall of 2024 and quickly made an impression with his creativity, professionalism and passion for sports broadcasting. Working under the mentorship of Jeff Nolan, WEEU’s Sports Director, Adam’s responsibilities ranged from cohosting the station’s “Scoreboard Show” on Friday nights to filming game footage, producing highlight packages and providing on-air analysis. He’s also credited with launching WEEU’s popular “Mic’d Up” segments—short, behind-the-scenes videos that have attracted thousands of views and become a key feature of the station’s sports coverage.
“I’ve grown so much alongside our coverage,” Adam said. “Because of my internship, I was able to explore new paths in sports media that I never would’ve touched elsewhere. I feel so much ahead of the curve when it comes to sports broadcasters in high school.”
Mr. Mark Ricketts, Exeter’s Internship Coordinator, nominated Adam for the award, calling him a model example of what the internship program can achieve. “Adam has excelled at his internship,” Ricketts said. “He’s built his on-air confidence, earned the trust of his mentor, and puts in more hours than required. WEEU even implemented one of his ideas—the ‘Mic’d Up’ athlete feature—which has become a major success. He’s well on his way to achieving his future career goals.”
Adam’s internship experience has already led to part-time employment at WEEU as a content creator and production assistant, allowing him to continue developing his skills throughout his senior year. Outside of WEEU, he also leads a full schedule of student-run soccer broadcasts at Exeter.
After graduation, Adam plans to attend a four-year university to major in journalism or communications and hopes to pursue a career as a professional sports broadcaster.
“I’m so thankful to Mr. Ricketts and what he’s done to build up the internship program here at Exeter,” Adam said. “I’m truly honored to be selected as the representative for Exeter at the BBEC.”
