Internship Program

Internship Program

Our for-credit internship program provides students with the opportunities to explore careers that match their personal interests and skills while gaining real-world experience and mentorship in an occupational field. These hands-on experiences allow students to be better prepared for their future, and gives them the flexibility to experiment with different occupations before they invest their time, and money into further training or education after high school.

Thanks to local community partners and business leaders, our internship program can provide these enriching experiences to the next generation of workers and industry leaders.

Whether you are a student looking to explore internships while gaining high school credit and real-world experience, or a business leader looking to provide internship opportunities to high school students, we look forward to hearing from you! Please contact Mr. Mark Ricketts, Career Internship Facilitator, by email or phone at 610-816-2471.

EXPERIENCE TO PLAN YOUR FUTURE

Exeter Township High School students are eligible to take part in the internship program during their senior year. Student interns will participate in a workplace experience, in regularly-scheduled assignments/journals, in meetings with the Internship Facilitator and business mentor and in an end-of-semester presentation. Internships are scheduled as a class during your fall or spring semester, or may be scheduled for the duration of your senior year. This experience may end up helping you decide which career path or college major is right for you. Please know that most internships are unpaid (but some may be paid).

Steps for those who are interested in pursuing an internship:

  1. Talk to Mr. Ricketts, the Career Internship Facilitator, and/or your counselor.
  2. Download, or take home and read the Internship Program booklet.
  3. Keep the overview section of the packet for future reference.
  4. Return application forms to Mr. Ricketts.
  5. After your core teachers fill out student recommendation forms, they will be scored and reviewed.

Thank you for taking the time to consider accepting one of our students as an intern during the school year. Our internship program helps students to immerse themselves in specific career fields and areas of study outside of the traditional school setting. The success of our program depends on a strong community partnership with local businesses such as yours.

Mentoring an intern is a rewarding but added responsibility for any individual or company. Our program is outlined below to help you make an informed decision about your ability to accommodate one of our student interns.

  • Students choose the length of their internship based on individual schedule/goals:
    • Half year (Late August to mid-January or mid-January to early June)
    • Full year (Late August to early June)
    • Hours are dependent upon the student's schedulle and varies from 3.5 hours a week (full year) to 7 hours per week (semester).
  • Internship times are flexible—some occur during the school day and others occur outside of the school day during the evening/weekends.
  • Student interns can work on a variety of projects/tasks.
  • Internship supervisors are considered school district volunteers and as such are required to obtain the clearances described on our website.
  • Internship supervisors are asked to complete monthly evaluations of the intern.
  • An Internship Facilitator is assigned to each student and will provide support and oversight throughout the program. The facilitator will be available to address any questions, concerns or issues that may arise.

Internships can be unpaid or paid. If you feel that you will be able to accommodate a student intern during the school year, please add your business’ name to a list of local organizations willing to mentor an intern. Please contact Mark Ricketts at maricketts@exetersd.org or by phone at 610-816-2471 or complete this FORM to learn more. You can also view and download our Mentor Booklet HERE.

Your interest and support of the program and our students are greatly appreciated!
