Mock Trial Team Named Berks' Best

On Tuesday, Exeter's SHS Mock Trial team went to court against other students from Berks, Lehigh and Northampton Counties as they acted as plaintiffs and defendants in a simulated medical malpractice case in this year's Pennsylvania Bar Association's Mock Trail regional competition. The competition gives students hands-on experience in the judicial process as their cases are heard by an actual judge and lawyers, who serve as the jury. Although Exeter's team did not advance to the state competition, the team was the best-performing Berks team as they won one of their two cases, and with Sasha Kononov and Madeline McAullife winning Best Advocate awards, and Paige Leiderman and Madelyn Fetich winning Best Witness Awards.
PA's Mock Trial Competition is one of the largest in the nation and gives nearly 300 high school student teams from across the state the opportunity to act as lawyers and witnesses in simulated civil trails before actual judges and lawyers who act as juries, team advisors, scorekeepers and regional coordinators. Mock Trial club members also include CJ Wright and Trinity Stone; Mr. Sean Reese advises the club.
